Internet Setup Guide (Non ADSL)

For Internet connection in the following apartment buildings:

Altitude
Bankside
Cityzone
Harvard
Stanford

Follow these easy steps to connect your PC to your Internet connection or download the User Guide (Non ADSL) in PDF format.

 

Connection

  • Connect PC or Laptop to the Internet port (RJ45) on the wall with a category 5 or greater Ethernet cable.
  • Update network connection settings – See below. To connect to the Internet with an always-on connection, usernames and passwords are not required.

Settings - Create New
Generic for Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP Operating Systems

  • Click ’Start’
  • Click ’Run’
  • Type ’Inetwiz’
  • Click ’OK’
  • Select ’Connect using my local area network (LAN)’
  • Click ’Next’
  • Select ’Automatic discovery of proxy server’
  • Click ’Next’
  • When asked: ’Do you want to setup an Internet Mail Account now?’, Select ’No’
  • Click ’Next’
  • Click ’Finish’
  • Open the ’Control Panel’
  • Open ’Network Connections’
  • Click on the LAN Connection, right click, and select ’Properties’
  • Click on ’Internet Protocol’
  • Click on ’Properties’
  • Select ’Obtain an IP address automatically’
  • Select ’Obtain DNS Server address automatically’
  • Click ’OK’
  • Click ’OK’
  • Open ’Internet Explorer#8217;
  • Drag down to the ’Tools’ menu
  • Select the ’Connections’ tab
  • Ensure the ’Never dial a connection’ option is checked
  • Click ’Setup’
  • Click ’Next’
  • Click ’Connect to the internet’
  • Click ’Set up my connection manually’
  • Click ’Connect using a broadband connection that is always on’
  • Click ’Finish’

Your Internet connection should now be working.

 

If you have Microsoft Vista as an operating system

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click ’Tools’
  • Click ’Internet Options’
  • Click ’Settings’
  • Click ’Follow instructions from Step 6 above’

 

If you use Apple OS

Apple will find its own settings
